The big arma game (Monthly?) Event

I was totally thinking we should on a regular basis perhaps monthly try and organize a big game of arma with a platoon of 15+ clan members and friends playing a mission together!

At present I am trying to gauge interest more than anything!

Please post below if you would be interested in this sort of event, I would love to do a mission on this sort of scale, please post below if you would like to take part. If you need help setting up mods etc!

I am also interested to know who would like to potentially be platoon CO and XO(Platoon sergeant!), squad leaders and fire team leaders. As the idea would be to have a CO+XO+Squads, with hopefully either 2+ squads or a number of smaller fireteams!

I am personally up for doing whatever role is required and would like to try Platoon CO or XO. I suggest doing this on a saturday evening starting with once a month!

Definitly in! As you might know, I would like to try and do some ftl or something like that and as you might know; I dont have great experience with it.

I'll be honest: if it's as boring as last time I played ACE with you, I'm not in. It just takes too much time to actually get something done. Decisions need to be done fast. I can't be bothered to wait 15 min for some supplies to get there and then another 15 min watching others trying to move in somewhere.

Get some armour roles and sort out the slow-ness of commanding and I'm in.

It all depends on the mission.

I have two video's up on YouTube right now, both about 45 minutes.

If you (already) think that sort of gameplay is slow, the game might not be for you.

On the even larger maps, though, things just are slow(er). It's a simulator, not a run&gun game Razz

That is as close to real life war as a "military simulator" can bring you: small moments of pure terror interrupted by long periodes of pure boredom.
Stick in the line and follow the commands... and BE PATIENT!
Otherwise try to commad a full scale mission yourself and bring evry bloke home safely. You'll see it will not work without propper planning.

Not all of us take enjoyment from the same things, it is sad to see that there are many games today that have destroyed many gamers patience. I don't think Arma is quite for you Lovvi as it is not the gameplay pace you personally enjoy. Real combat doesn't happen at call of duty's pace Wink

Assets are something to be explored in the future but even if we do have them they would be cautiously used, there isn't room for everyone to horde the assets (everyone loves flying in arma). The slowness of commanding is something we have been working on

and has defiantly improved and will continue to do so.

As Chris has already mentioned Arma 2 is a simulator, and it's rather fun at that! Fun is indeed a goal of ours but to many of us that comes from trying to a mission seriously.

I enjoy playing Arma 2, just yesterday I tried out a couple of fun missions with friends and had a blast. I guess it depends on the group of people you're playing with.

I knew someone was going to bring up the "simulator real life" bs arguement. I play arma 2 for a reason - to get some tactical and different gameplay that is different from cod and bf. Maybe it's just ACE that makes the game more slower than needs to be.

anyway I agree with you guys but it also matter how do you play with those guys because you can play with your friends and make s**t of every misson or you can play serisouly with them and have evan more fun

Although I don't want to derail this topic, Lovvi makes a point that I somewhat agree with. I love the game and I enjoy playing with the clan, however ACE sometimes gets in the way of my enjoyment. Arma2 is fairly poor UI-wise as it is, ACE only makes that worse (2 extra menus and ctrl+shift shortcuts). I also can only take some much enjoyment from playing against AI, no matter how "skilled" they are, they are always fairly predictable. Time is also an issue, waiting around for things like that eats up into precious gaming time that I don't have a lot of.

If we do have a monthly arma game I would love to do some small/med TvT (maybe AI on both sides) missions. Assuming they exist and aren't complete rubbish? The TvT the United Operations guys get up to looks amazing, but their community is way too serious for me to get into that, NwA is the perfect balance of fun people who enjoy realism/serious gameplay and teamwork.

As a thought, do we know if any of the other PR clans have ArmA players, as a couple friendly TvT games could be great fun?

Edit: I think Saturday evening is a terrible idea, because 95% of the time I cannot make it
