Possibily buying a Gaming PC.
So that Dayz mod for Arma really got me feening for some zombie action, I've got a decent amount of money to spare (also need it for my summer trip) but I was just wondering, could someone estimate with me how much a pretty good rig for playing Arma 2 is? or maybe should I wait for some big ass price drop for rigs? :3

Re: Possibily buying a Gaming PC.
Mine plays ARMAII and all the mods spot on, no problems so far touch wood! " touches head"
If i told you the price i paid i would have to kill you.. but its not the greatest PC out there its far from it, but like i said above it ruins ARMA smooth as ice cream.
I don't no what's in it tho so don't ask

MB: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO

GPU: ASUS GTX460 or some AMD product to support eyefinity?
PSU: 850W PSU
RAM: 4 - 8 GB 1333 GHz

In the end, this might cost you 500£? 600-700€ perhaps

Re: Possibily buying a Gaming PC.
Scotty I've got a HP pavillion dv 6 laptop, works decent with pr but i want to join the big leages.
Hopefully I'll have 400-500 after the summer and I'll just work my way up for a computer.
If someone could give me a little vivd description of what I can expect from running a rig in the 600-700 spectrum that would be great. Hopefully I'll get some fulltime work over the summer till August :3

Good lord, 850W PSU? I'd be surprised if that rig even requires more than 350 during full load (furmark/prime95 stresstesting at the same time, which is much, much more powerhungry than any game). Taking a bit of headroom and a 450/500W PSU from a proper brand (seasonic, XFX Pro series, Corsair, Be Quiet! and Antec EarthWatts) will be plenty.
As for the rig itself, it'll run most things fine. The CPU/Mobo combination isn't that future proof though. If you're willing to dish out about 1000 pounds you can easily make a beautiful i5 2500k setup, which will last you years.
Edit:
Just took a look on overclockers.co.uk and came up with this: (price in pounds)
CPU: i5 2500k [167.99]
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V [89.99]
PSU: XFX Pro 550W [59.99]
RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4) PC3-10666 [39.95]
GPU: EVGA GTX 560Ti 448 edition [191.99]
Total of this: 561.90 pounds including VAT and 10 pounds shipping.
You will need a case with this (if you don't already have one), and maybe another harddisk. You might opt for a better CPU cooler as well. All in all I think you could have a pretty powerful PC for less than 800 pounds. If you'd dish out another 150-200 pounds you could also buy a 128GB SSD, next to your harddisk.

Did they really already stop selling the 1090T in the Netherlands.. sheesh. AMD really wants to push their Bulldozers, don't they -.-

Re: Possibily buying a Gaming PC.
Nixy, I favor 850 W PSU because over the years the PSU will lose its power and the extra 500 W is leaving room por possible upgrades. If you are not happy with your current GTX 460, get another one! Buy extra fans? Buy extra hip-hop lights in your case? No problem! I don't upgrade/switch PSU so often (like in 3-4 years on my old computer, PSU didn't broke at any moment, simply lost it's power) so good to keep it high.
My opinion ^ if someone is telling me to GTFO as I ain't a computer engineer

Re: Possibily buying a Gaming PC.
Mate, I got this for £700-800 before christmas...
i5 2500k
CM Storm Scout Case
Sabertooth P67 Motherboard
GTX 470
Wireless Card
Hyper 212 Plus
LG DVD Drive
8GB DDR3 Ripjaws-X
Samsung F3 1TB hard drive (I'm gonna buy another of these methinks, either for FRAPS or I'll RAID 'DEM BITHCES)
Corsair GS800W PSU
Emprex Keyboard, G500, Steel Series XL Mousemat, Gamecom Headset
Amazon is your friend, and check Aria for daily deals (My GTX 470 was £130! :O)
My plans for improvement are! -
Buy brand new GFX , IE, HD 7950/7970 or a GTX 680.
SSD (I'd like one but I'm not in a rush) second HDD for recording (400GB~ footage lulz)
More RAM (MOAR POWAA, Lulz no, for video editing)
To go buying anything else, would quite simply mean I may as well buy a new rig.
