Re: Gaming PC Build
looks pretty similar to mine - only differences - I've gone for asus sabertooth Z77 board, and nvidia graphics (EVGA 680 Classified HC when its released )
oh and case wise i'd go for the nzxt tempest 410 or a corsair case but cases are 90% personal preference anyway (I went for nzxt switch 810 cos I'm gona be watercooling)
also graphics card wise have you looked at the new(ish) nvidia 660Ti or 670 in sli - afaik they scale pretty well when sli'd

Re: Gaming PC Build
hi again,
turns out i am just going to get an alienwear pc.
but i could do with some help with picking the processor. im a bit confused because the I7 3770 runs at 3.40Ghz and has a 8MB L3 cache but the I5 3450 runs at up to 3.5GHz and has a 6M cache. so do i need the slightly faster I5 or a bigger cache with the I7
thanks ginge

Re: Gaming PC Build
the i7 has hyper threading which effectively doubles the number of cores by giving you 4 physical cores and 4 virtual ones. The i5 is only 4 physical cores. I dunno if they do the i5 3570K but that is what I have and they are very good. THe K means the processor is "unlocked" so you can overclock it, I have mine set up to auto overclock with the intel software and it runs stable at 4.3GHz under load then scales back down when not needed.

Re: Gaming PC Build
You might want to switch to AMD, in case you want to be able to upgrade the CPU in the future.

Re: Gaming PC Build
I5 3750k is better for gaming. I7 better video editing and 3D work. For the extra cost the i7 is money wasted. Use the saved cash for a bigger SDD.

Re: Gaming PC Build
Alienware is overpriced crap (but I guess that doesn't matter if you aren't paying for it). And AMD for gaming computers.. bitch please. They gave up on making good gaming processors 6 years ago when they started designing the Bulldozer cores. Even the older Phenom X2 860's are better than the Bulldozer/Piledriver junk they have on the market right now.
For those that get it: One Floating Point Calculator per 2 CPU cores is no good for gaming.

Re: Gaming PC Build
Even if you aren't paying for it, you can get a hell of a lot more for the same money if you build it yourself! stick with an i5 if its mostly for gaming
