I got the DDE as well. I'm not really in it for the extra's (which you will get in due time anyway), but you all say it's a very good studio, so they deserve the money. I agree with that statement

yeah, I got the DDE for the exact same reason, Tripwire are awesome and deserve the money.

Cannot wait for the fully modelled/skinned interiors of the T-34 and Panzer IV in tank battles. And they said they'll be adding more tanks over time aswell . . . yyyeeessss.

I've had a read of the FAQ now and it does seem that they're keeping to the realism. The minimap only shows team-mates, and, like you say, servers can control the realism settings.

The Digital deluxe edition on steam comes with Beta access, should be released tonight (US time)

The beta won't be a preload, but the full release will be (scheduled for Sept 13th).
