Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Back when PR was a baby, there was a mod (and evenutally, full game) called Red Orchestra. One of the few realistic/realism based shooters available at the time (and still) it won lots of awards. It focuses on the Eastern Front of WW2, between the Russians and Nazis. I played it a fair amount, and it was a lot of fun. It has a lot of similarities to PR, limited kits, realistic damage, ballistics modelling.
This year the sequel is due to be released. Looks interesting, lots of potential, it'll be nice to have a break from Modern Warfare overload.

Anyone play the original or gonna get the new one?

I played RO:Ostfront 41-45. Got it on steam, but haven't played for ages, probably since I found PR. Good game, though the controls are fiddly.
Been thinking of trying out the mods for it.

The MOD for RO called darkest hour was good intruduced the americans and made it alot more realistic in terms of tank warfare anyway.

Wonder if the pre-order bonus of the unlocks is anything special, or something that will be generally available after a short amount of game time.. Can't have unbalanced guns now can we
Nixy23- Registration date : 2011-05-01
Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
No, the devs have said the weapons will be unlocked as you rank up, nothing is going to be special for too long, if any major time at all. Nothing is going to give any major advantages. So you don't have to worry about that.

Eh I like unlocks, as long as kits/classes are limited per team&squad (which they still are) things should be fine. I guess we'll see in a few weeks. Tripwire can do no wrong in my eyes /fanboy

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Soooo:
Regular pre-order and get the KAR98 (Bayonet) and the 9130 Nagant (Bayonet) unlocks from day 1. Price = 31,50 in euro's.
Deluxe edition gives those weapons, PLUS first day unlocks of the G41 sniper, MKB42 assault rifle, AVT40 and the SVT40 Sniper. Price = 40,50 euro's.
Wondering if those 9 euro's are worth the instant unlocks. I think they are. Opinions? Not that I'm short on cash. I'm just Dutch, so by default a bit Scrooge like

Give tripwire more money, they are one of few good devs left, not controller by massive publishers. It's not a huge amount more, and you get a bit more stuff.

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
I don't play tf2 so whether I get free stuff or not is irrelevant. Early unlocks are ok, but again I'm not that bothered. I used to preorder games before all this bonus rubbish became the norm.
I see my preorder of the LE version as support for a developer that I like. I will vote with my wallet, not for free stuff, but for what I wish gaming would go back to. Mod support, dedi servers, server browsers, having OPTIONS and freedom. Screw EA and activision (though I will still buy BF3, I won't be happy about it )

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Yeah, I'm not really commenting on these preorder offers, just getting annoyed at all the crap that's being added to TF2, which is still a really good game despite Valve's best efforts. *sigh*
Do you know how the unlocks and progression system are going to work?

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Ahh I never really got into TF2, bought it years late, didn't know anyone that played and it was just too overwhelming. Couldn't be arsed to learn when I have barely any time for PR even.
I don't know how it will work, I hope it will be decent. I think servers can completely customise their settings, so might be able to just turn it off and revert to RO1 style limiting (this is a guess)
This is a good thread over on their forums for anyone sitting on the fence

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
I got the feeling that the classes are still limited BUT this time you can only play as classes like the sniper and MG when you have been promoted. This means that new players will be limited to the bolt action rifles, then their next unlock might be the ability to choose an SMG class or semi-auto rifle class OR add new parts to their weapons such as bayonets etc.
Maybe this is how it works.

Re: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad
Look, I bought the DDE because I felt that the devs deserved the money.
If you really aren't sure I would say that you should buy the regular edition.
You aren't missing out on anything, you still get the unlocks like BC2, the only difference might be that we will have a better chance at killing opponents at closer range(and to some extent longer range). Slightly.
I also bought Killing Floor and TF2 a couple of years back so this is a nice bonus.
