Book reading, I need suggestions
Ive gotten myself one of these fancy Ebook readers.
I usualy read sci-fi, and thrillers.
Some of my favourtie authors are Heinlein, Arthur Clarke, Phillip K. d**k, Clive Barker.
Ive read tons of books, and re-read them many times over.
Right now im looking to expand my list of favourite authors, so got any suggestions?

Highly recommend any book by Ed Macy. Accounts from the frontline in Afghanistan from an Apache Pilots perspective. Ed was one of the pilots that went in and recovered the body of Matty Ford in Jugroom Fort. He's a top fella.

I enjoy Andy McNab (especially the more recent ones) Chris Ryan, Wilbur Smith
3 of my favourite books that I have read at least 5 times each:
Tom Clancy - Red Storm Rising:
Tom Clancy - SSN
Harold Coyle - The Ten Thousand by
If you fancy something different Simon Scarrow and Conn Iggulden do some decent books about the roman legions.

Another Fantasy/Sci-Fi type author I would highly recommend is Terry Goodkind and his Sword of Truth series. I think there were over ten books in it the last time I read through them, brilliant books and very immersive, really well written!
More along the military side of things, as w00k suggested, Ed Macy's books are fantastic and quite eye-opening.

I enjoyed Tom Clancy's Rainbow six, I read it a few once or twice many years ago and did quite enjoy it (not bad for 99p at a charity shop ). Mainly because I loved the rainbow six games yes the orginal old school ones .
I'll be honest I haven't read too many books but 'To Kill A Mockingbird' is a great story, the book starts off quite dull but its an awesome book.

Love Discworld. Although you can grow tired of them if you read many of them in a row.
Tom clancy didnt write Rainbow 6 series. But only branded them.
I used to read alot of fantasy, but i just cant get myself to return to that genre..

Apart from the ones you've listed, which are all excellent reads (though I don't know Barker), these are my top reads:
SciFi:
Hyperion Cantos (series) - Dan Simmons
anything and everything by Asimov
Out of the Silent Planet - C. S. Lewis (in a series but it gets weird after this the first book)
The Night's Dawn Trilogy - Peter F. Hamilton
Fantasy:
The Name of the Wind - Patrick Rothfuss

Re: Book reading, I need suggestions
Yes Yes Yes, about the Hyperion Cantos, I think ive read 3 sets of books to shreds. Also love Asimov. Read almost everything hes written.
I Havent read anything from Lewis, but ill try find some.
Ive read the 2 first books of the Nights dawn, but I find that he gets too technical. Somehow i get lost in all his tech babble. Instead of staying in the story. There I think Simmons is better, he slowly takes you into the universe and decribes the culture and the tech used there.

Re: Book reading, I need suggestions
Mmm, was surprised you hadn't listed Asimov initially.
Well C. S. Lewis is better known for his Narnia series. I like his sci-fi as it's a pre-space view of what space travel would be like (plus exploring another world), but he gets a surprising amount right.
I loved The Night's Dawn Trilogy precisely because it was technical. I'm a little surprised it didn't appeal to you more. The explanations were actually good! (c.f. the shambles of a space opera that is the Saga of Seven Suns by Kevin J. Anderson. It is painful and frustrating to read the "technical" stuff by the end.)
Arg! Almost forgot Ursula Le Guin! Better known for her Earthsea novels, she's written some awesome sci-fi covered by the term the Hainish Cycle. All of them very good, though The Dispossessed is one of my favourites.

Re: Book reading, I need suggestions
I love a good space opera with hi-tech stuff in it, As i remember it, it was just hard to get into.
Yes the explanations where good, when they came, but i found that often, they came later, after it was used(the tech) so that the story in itself was hard to understand, since I didnt understand the tech that was used when i read it the passage.
I looked up Lewis...yep your right, they get wierd real quick.

Hey. A note from a sci-fi junkie:
Just re-read 'Anathem' by Neal Stephenson - best book of the last decade. He wrote 'Cryptonomicon' too, its got submarines..
Also, check out 'Market Forces' & 'Black Man' by Richard (K) Morgan. And anything by; Alastair Reynolds, Charles Stross, Neal Asher, Iain M. Banks, Peter F. Hamilton & David Brin.
