Re: anti alaising
I normally set it at x8, hit apply. Quit BF2, reload BF2, set it again and then join a server.
If not you could just manually set your video.con such that "VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 8Samples" (within you my docs / BF2 / Profiles etc etc etc)

Re: anti alaising
Firstly clear ur shader cache. Go to MyDocuments/Battlefield 2/mods and delete the 2 files inside called bf2 & xpack.
reload bf2 and set ur AA, apply and quit game. restart game and check it. If the setting has stayed join a server to create a new cache then u should be good.
If that hasn't worked repeat steps to clear cache. Then go to MyDocuments/Battlefield 2/profiles/000x/Video (x being the profile u want to edit) and then manualy edit this line:
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing xSamples
x being the AA setting eg 2, 4, 8, 16 etc
For example:
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 4Samples
that should do it.
Also if you can only see upto x4 in BF2 video settings I wouldn't try to set it higher. I tried that and ended up with the game applying AA to the text on screen making it look like klingon

Re: anti alaising
I have the same problem if my video settings are turned on for AA. Set it to aplication controled and you`ll be fine then to turn it on in game.
