ARMA 3 ?!

Figured this forum serves as an ArmA place, rather than just ArmA2 so here is the news of ArmA 3!

Oh great. Now all the mods will have to be RE-re-written (arma>arma2>arma3) and the community will have to start over. I don't see the point in this tbh, why don't they just continue improvign the arma 2 engine with performance tweaks and new content? Instead they expect us to shell out for another game just like the old except for the mods which we'll then have to wait for.

The only mod I really care about is PR tbh. ArmA2 is only a year or so old, but look at PR and BF2, 6 years in the making and we are still playing it. PR has never been better and it runs super nice on current hardware.

Some ArmA2 optimisations and stuff would be nice but oh well. PR have no plans to shift to ArmA 3 so who cares

It's also on moddb so I think its legit.

I'm really looking forward to the improved animation.

things i miss in arma 2 is ragdoll physics, optimization, smooth movement, and improved animations.

The problem is that the engine for ArmA2 is so unoptimised and bug-ridden that in order to just "tweak" it, you might as well create a new one, because some of the problems go right down to base level of the code. To just tweak the game would only add a little bit of polish to what it is already, but they want to get it perfect, so they'd probably start again, it's often quicker to start from scratch and re-use parts or copy them, than hunt through all the code just to find the part you might need to change in order to get the desired effect.

Yeah you're right. I've taken a closer look at it and it does look like there's going to be some pretty cool improvements.

Not sure about the "2025" time period, it's gonna be interesting how they pull it off.

We've got PR:ArmaA coming in a couple of months so I'm happy.

Man this looks terrible. It's set in the near future of 2025 (gag reflex) with futuristic tanks and apcs and that old scrapped stealth helicopter. Check out the screenshots here. M14 EBR and F2000 Tactical - wat?

They've ghost recon-ed the ArmA I knew and loved

(on a slightly less dramatic note: It will be completely moddable, and the new graphics engine is certainly a welcome change from whatever the hell they call the thing that powers ArmA2)

Not really, ArmA2 with Benny's Warfare mod is thoroughly enjoyable, plus mods will have to be rewritten and thus it will take some time before mods come out. I don't want ArmA: GRAW

It's looking lovely. Not sure I'm a fan of the underwater stuff, could be cool though.

if they make the underwater accessable enough during missions i'm sure it will be implemented into some great mod work, i can't see doing missions just based being underwater being fun. It will be one of the most dynamic game changes any game has done, sure we've been to space and we've been to hell in most other games, but rarely have we been underwater and been free to explore it in a sandbox type of game.

I garuntee there'll be a mission where your a SEAL or something, going underground through a sewage system and breaking into a base secretly.

ArmA 2 LOOKS amazing to me, but will the ArmA 3 gameplay involve walking and shooting at actual targets instead of glitching around the map in various broken parts of animation cycle and aiming everywhere around an enemy in the hope of actually hitting him...?
