AAR Big Mission 1 [21/07/2012]
For anybody who has attended the Mission on Saturday. This is the AAR thread where you can post anything from a quick comment to a full-on AAR. You can also post your YouTube videos of the mission here.
Operation Fallujah AAR:
At the start of the mission all SL had a quick briefing with the CO. The plan was to insert all squads via BH piloted by Exetick. Cobra was sent as top-cover. As soon as we hit the city edge we encountered enemy fire. All squads made it safely on the ground and both choppers made it out of the AO intact. MHQ trailed behind our forces until the LZ was cleared. After initial contact and skirmishes from armoured vehicles the MHQ (read: godfather) was deployed south of the AO. Patriot squad provided protection for Godfather.
A heavy firefight ensued until the squads managed to secure and destroy the radio tower cutting enemy communications and thus preventing enemy reinforcements to be called in. 2 hours after initial contact the industrial park was cleared and all forces were retrieved via BH extraction. The fight was not over for our team yet as they were tasked to retrieve the enemy flag north east of the city. Another BH insertion was held with an Apache as top-cover. The Apache drew most of the enemy AA but surcame after 6 missile dodges. The BH was damaged as well and had to do an emergency landing.
All surviving forces managed to regroup and went for the enemy encampment. One last push was made by our troops and wiped out the entire defending garrison. The secondary BH was tasked to retrieve the remaining troops to bring them back to base. After extraction the chopper got hit by a 57mm UB-16 rocket fired by an L-39ZA Albatros. The pilot managed to crash land the chopper between several trees. Survivors were spotted dragging people out of the chopper. The Albatros made another run and annihilated the rest of the survivors.
All personnel K.I.A.
End of report.

Cobra report
AH-1 Tzefa
Armaments:
4 x BGM-71 TOW2A missiles
750 x 20mm M197 canon
38 x 2.75cal LAU-61
The Cobra has seen extensive usage during the entire operation. It did not, however, fill its role satisfactory. Orford, you are a great pilot but we used the chopper unwisely. Stingers are effective at taking down enemy jets at extreme ranges. Combined with having no incoming missile warning system equipped on the chopper we saw more sand than actual enemy fire. The chopper even bugged out several times. One bug had a workaround that was quickly utilized. Sometimes after repairing on the Chopper Repair pad the TOW missiles would lock up. A quick fly-by the repair truck seems to fix it. Another bug cropped up that only allowed one pilot inside the vehicle. The only way to get around the bug was to scuttle the chopper.
Flying several times up high at altitudes of 400-500, we got shot down every time we got close to the city. Only after trying to fly behind defilade and successfully engaging enemy armour and AAA canons had we found a good tactic. This tactic is also strengthened by the fact that enemies teleport at long ranges. This has been observed during several missions. Thus making long range engagements with moving targets using TOWs and AGM-114Ks effectively useless. Unless the AGM-114Ks are used in conjunction with a SOFLAM.
Shortly after the AO was captured, we traded our Cobra Tzefa for an Apache Saraph. This Apache was superior to the Cobra in every way. It even had a warning system. Orford managed to dodge 6 missiles before we got sandwiched between 2 Stingers. I would have loved to see SOFLAM action with the Hellfires as they can engage enemy armour up to several kilometers without having troubles with enemy desyncing.
The only way I can see the Tzefa being utilized effectively is either by hugging buildings inside the city or doing quick gun-runs with heavy flare usage. For the later we would need a proper JTAC (read: If anyone wants to do JTAC trainings with me please poke/harass me until I give in). Overall, we did OK but we could have done better. I would not suggest using the Cobra during the initial stages of deployment unless equipped with Hellfires. Even then we would need a JTAC painting targets.
The last Cobra (read: It had Hellfires) saw combat at the last objective, slightly. Only destroying a single Shilka after the engagement was, effectively, over.
End of report
- I would like to extend my respect to Orford as he managed to land the Cobra in succession after receiving several missile hits.
- USMC Cobra seems to have an early warning system
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone has uploaded a video you can link it in your post below. I will try to collect them all in the OP. I, myself, have recorded the entire round from the gunner perspective of the Cobra. I will link to it once it has fully rendered and has been uploaded to YouTube. It should be 3 hours long, lots of down-time stuff and us dying. I will have my own opinions in the game so keep that in mind when you watch it. No offence to anyone.
P.S: Seeing as I was part of the Cobra crew I made a longer report of the Cobra instead of the actual operation.

Re: AAR Big Mission 1 [21/07/2012]
Mission was great we had 20 players and even sadly had to turn someone away , and there are plenty more interested in playing. Without a doubt there will be more!
Platoon CO - Godfather - Snippers
Platoon SGT - Birka
Trans pilot - Big Bird - Exetick
Cobra crew - Uzi-1 - Da-Fort
Orford
Sniper - Assassin - Chris
Spotter - daniel
Fireteam 1 - Dagger
Nixy - FTL
Scotty
Kop
Ferit
Rantbox?
Fireteam 2 - Sabre
Kerremanis - FTL
deadly
Mr.Arked
Ghost
Fireteam 3 - Patriot
Zach - FTL
BXV
Bemetson
Mukker
Absolutely fantastic round!
Slight inaccurate, Patriot escorted Godfather who had the MHQ at the start. Assassin also provided overwatch from a high roof top taking out numerous targets. The bug regarding the pilots getting in, I found with that if we both entered the chopper at the same time it would work, but getting the exact time isn't easy!
A huge thank you to you all who made it such a great evening!
I would like to request feedback on:
- Radio comms/usage - Did the setup work well, and any comments regarding the actual usage!
- Gear loadouts - Did your fireteam gear loadouts work effectively? would you change anything?
- Unit structure - Did this work well? anything that didn't work out that should be changed?
- Mission - feedback on the actual mission and length of the mission!
My personal feedback:
- 117 Comms seemed good, probably could have been a bit better but I thought they were fantastic given our first 'platoon op'
- In light of more players joining us we will need to train more players in the basics of all equipment, to effectively prepare fireteams!
- Everybody seemed to be doing their job well and following orders, Hoo'rah!
- Platoon sergeant role was nice to have as a commander, as he could take care of any tasks that would free me up again!
- We'll need to work better on our CAS tactics more to do with utilizing FAC and learning to use well, it is quite unfortunate the cobra lacked an early warning system!
- With comm usage it would be nice if some squads report when they are in position, or have completed objectives (example Big Bird made a helicopter drop and didn't notify drop was complete, alternatively neither squad reported they were on the ground, HQ needs to know these things).
EDIT: Turns out my fraps recordings audio is really bad as it recorded an nonactive mic which sounds horrriblleee

Re: AAR Big Mission 1 [21/07/2012]

I would love to do this again at some point:D
I dont have much to add tbh. thought everything was good comms was good not to much and not to little^^
nothing to add about the gear loadouts because I wasnt part of a fireteam

Re: AAR Big Mission 1 [21/07/2012]
Was good fun. I flaked out after we completed the first main mission. I really need to find a more ergonomic setup.
Report from Sabre - AR gunner
Sabre successfully inserted by chopper and quickly moved North. Enemy vehicles (APCs, T-34) were patrolling the area, which we mostly avoided. Ghost took down a quad AA which strayed too close.
Sabre soon moved into a position on a small rise close and to the west of the planned FOB location, but realised we were cut off from friendly forces. We tried to call in air support against an APC, but had to call an abort after hand-held AA was spotted. We held our position until relief could arrive, and engaged a number of infantry targets consisting of singles or pairs.
Sabre was eventually relieved by Patriot [correct?] when the bulk of our forces broke through. We then moved north and cleared an alternate FOB location.
Having rearmed and reorganised, Sabre slowly made its way up the west side of the target area. We had no engagements until we took up an overwatch position south west of the radio tower. We had multiple light vehicle and infantry contacts. We returned fire with AT and small arms, disabling at least 2 light vehicles. We then crossed the road north east to the main compound with AR covering the road and set satchel charges on the radio tower [successfully?] after friendly forces failed to do so. While retiring, AR was hit and had to crawl to cover, but was returned to combat ready status by squad mates.
The squads shared out ammo and patched up while a plan for a final assault was drawn up. When executed, Sabre moved up the left flank. When coming to an opening into the compound Ghost was hit and killed by a vehicle mounted HMG. The vehicle moved away so we moved up and assaulted the compound. Ghost returned [to haunt us!] soon after the assault started. We took cover when an APC was spotted and the AR engaged another light vehicle.
Sabre then moved to assault the western bunker with Kerre and Arkad getting there first. As Ghost and I (deadly) were moving up, we were engaged by HMG. I was hit and knocked unconscious. Ghost dragged me to cover, but I bled out soon after. The bunker was captured with no further casualties. Having been assured that the HMG was down, I was re-engaged by said HMG while crossing the open ground. This time I returned fire with AR and killed the gunner.
Sabre then moved out to clear the west side and the mission was reported as completed soon after. At this point I took leave.
End of report.

Thoughts
- Letting ourselves be cut off from friendly forces was perhaps unwise, but it worked out okay.
- We moved up too slowly from the FOB. If we had been in that overwatch position earlier, some friendly casualties may have been avoided.
- Snippers should be court marshalled for passing down incorrect information that led to a casualty!
End of thoughts.

Re: AAR Big Mission 1 [21/07/2012]
Cracking bunch a lads! but unfavourable mission for me tho!
- To chaotic, unrealistic.. and abit boring for me unfortunately.
- I was also stood around for about 15/20mins twiddling my thumbs (so I jumped on a quad bike to kill the time then got moaned at )
Hopefully the next one will involve Americans, Mud huts + Taliban.
1. Massive credit to Snippers for making these missions possible!!
2. And a big thank you to all who attended, wish I could of stuck around longer but my head was pounding.

Atually, arked and ghost moved up to the bunker first! When you and me made a run for the bunker we both got shot down, I was bleeding heavily and managed to pass out behind the cover of the bunker whilst I think Ghost dragged you in to cover.deadly22sniper wrote:Sabre then moved to assault the western bunker with Kerre and Arkad getting there first. And sorry about assuring you the HMG was down (Snippers confirmed it was down), but it respawned again! So Snippers was not to blaim either
But yeah had a great round guys! I wanna write an AAR myself, but it'll take some time, so I'll see when I post it
@Da-fort
That video is so cool, nice quality and everything! I wish I could make myself watch the full 3 hours

00:26:00 and 02:32:00 are two very good moments. 01:09:00 has us hovering in the city behind cover.
