Hello people of NwA,

I recently fixed my desktop crash problem, but ever since I was able to play again, I frequently lose connection to the server. After playing for 15-30 minutes, it randomly says 'there is a problem with your connection' and I drop out back to the main menu. I used to think the server itself crashed but when I refreshed the server list I saw NWA with 62/64 players as usual. It's not on frequent moments though, those timeouts are really random. Yesterday it happened twice within 30 minutes, but after that I was able to play up to 3 hours without any crashing.

Anyone know why this is happening, and how do I prevent it?

This is a known problem and has to do with the host... I have a simular problem and i know some more clanmembers have it aswell, i haven't been able to play a full game for 2 weeks now..

Can it be mumble causing it? The push to talk button or so? Or maybe it happens in specific places or specific maps? Or is it actually the host?

UPDATE: I found something.


This problem is most likely caused VoIP and firewall interference. It occurs on populated servers when VoIP traffic is started between client and server. Because of server strain VoIP packets get delayed and thus recognized as DoS attack by some firewalls. To test whether it is VoIP related or not just simply switch off your VoIP in BF2 sound settings menu. If you don't get the error anymore you need to check your firewalls and test which one is blocking your VoIP traffic. Most likely it is the harware firewall of your router. You may need to try different routers to solve the problem.

If your Internet Service Provider has own firewalls or you have some kind of shared connection you need to contact administrator of that connection. (I don't know how common it is to have ISP firewalls, but I would guess they are rare.)

Might help out for the server owners of PR. Maybe they can alter something in order to lower the amount of random disconnects?

Some ISPs will prioritise your gaming & VOIP traffic...Ask them.

I have been testing this yesterday, and indeed, it's the ingame VOIP causing the random crashes. I have not found a way to fix this yet, the only alternative way to prevent these crashes is by disabling VOIP in the PR menu.

I started having these random disconnects yesterday as well - lucky I found this topic! Never liked VOIP anyway and haven't really played in any squad without Mumble recently.

I never use ingame VOIP, but people are using mumble but speak threw ingame voip.. I dont understand why.

Bf2 VOIP sucks balls, Cant remember the last time i used it myself! i used to let people without mumbe join my squads but not anymore i just kick them in hope they go get it installed!

Well to be honest I thought I solved the problems by disabling VOIP, but strange enough I am still getting random server disconnects. It keeps saying 'There's a problem with your connection" and after 10-20 seconds of showing that it drops me out to the main menu.

How do I solve this?
