Arma 2 night

Fine gentlemen of NwA and community, I would like us to play a game of arma 2 together!

I was playing last night with Brad and found the new patch has fixed all the MP lag issues Huzzah! we were playing on an american server just fine. The Details:

Date: This friday 20th/Sat 21st Janurary (start 8pm UK time?), please post if you can't make it but are interested in coming along!
Mods: Standard Arma2: OA (Mainlyto get everyone back first) (new patch 1.60)
Maps: That british mappack ./. insurgency

Would be great if we could have 6 or more!

I'd like to come but I've got work on friday till about.. 21:00 (in holland, so that should be 20:00 in UK right?) so I'll be home around 21:00'ish UK time.

I was thinking you would do an Arma2: PR but this is fine too, PR is hardly played I reckon.. BTW. Never really played Arma2 online or off, so I might be a bit of a nooblet

That's fine the more the merrier, more trying to rally the troops. I don't mind teaching anyone, to those reading if you think you being too newbish is a problem, it is not. We can try mods: Acre+ACE/ arma:PR another time I would well be up for that. Infact getting like a whole squad on arma2:pr would be something!

Looks like Saturday might be a far better day? I can also look into running the arma 2 server off our dedi when we play.

Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion pack for arma 2. Make sure you got the 1.60 patch for it.

You shouldn't need a copy of the maps, as arma has a feature were you can download them off the server, however to save time I intend to use these maps:

BAF (british armed forces) map-pack (You do not require BAF to play, but it will give better textures/models)

There are some good missions upto about 10 players in there

It will be best to split up into fire teams, so may require some volunteer leaders. I shall assume everyone has a working mic too

For a regular ArmA night, any day apart from Friday is good.

Sat's are usually fine, but I'm away this weekend, but feel free to do it then if this is a regular occasion.

Been playing arma for a while now... still not the best though.. can be any class needed.. but my specialty is being sniper on a hill top and covering team usually

Well we had some good games, managed to complete two of the british armed forces mappack maps

. Which I am rather excited about! The warfare map on friday night was awesome.

Right so next time? Perhaps this upcoming week may do something, but at this point I can not guarantee if I am free, but anyone could organize a night *wink*

I would like to finish some more of the british map pack, those are fricken awesome. Perhaps in due time if we got the numbers, play through that map with the double zodiac insertion onto the island.

United Operations server. It's an american (mostly) Arma community with VERY heavy focus on teamwork and proper protocol. You litterally have to be on their TS to join their game and you must follow orders from the commander.

ACRE is like mumble for PR. It's a teamspeak plugin that give you 3d positional audio and also works with radios ingame (You must have a radio, the right type of radio, you must set it to the right channel etc.)

It's amazing playing on there as it's just so organized and there's always someone in charge with a bigger picture.

The United Operations community has build/selected a set of mods (ACE, ACRE, UO made missions/maps/islands, sound mod, etc) to get to the real deal as close as possible. See it as hardcore PR.

Also the organisation/teamplay and especially the pre mission distribution of the different tasks for platoons and squads is truely amazing in my opinion but on the otherhand the learning curve is steep

But this is a close as you are going to get to the real thing (gaming wise).

How about those that know the ins and out of six updater and the ArmA setup have a config night so us that need to reinstall can get help and get any snaggs sorted.

The biggest pain in the ares is going to play a game and having to wait for xyz player to get the config running.
