Motherboard
hey guys,
seeing as I am a bit of a fool when it comes to computer knowledge, I was hoping you guize could advise me on buying a new motherboard.
I am getting the intel i5 2500k sandybridge 1155 socket processor and i understand that the mobo needs the 1155 socket thingy.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Sandybridge-i5-2500K-Quad-Core-Processor/dp/B004FA8NX2/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1324593405&sr=1-6

But what else should i be looking out for? i've been to overclockers.co.uk and there are z68 and p67 chipsets, and I don't know what the differences are
I would appreciate any help!

Re: Motherboard
your ram could be DDR2 and your new motherboard is probably going to have DDR3 support only. thats one thing.
and the new motherboard maybe only support SATA hardware. DVD/cdrom or hardrives.

Thanks for the input exe and every one else! It means a lot.
I'll definitely spend the extra 4 quid and get the ASUS card if you recommend it.

Re: Motherboard
With regards to the PSU, does the make need to be the same as the case?
Or is it that the psu has to have the dimensions to fit in the casE?

Re: Motherboard
1tb is good, but there are 2tbs ith a 64mb cache out there for not much more money,
ram is shite cheap at the mo so thats a good deal, i personally prefer corsair for example http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-300-CS
graphics wait about 3 weeks the new 7000 series of ATI card has just been announced and nvida are bound to pull theres out the bag too, so wait for the price drop on the current " high cards " i cant wait to go backto nvida, or im going to crossfire (sli for AMD cards) my 6970
honestly tho... look at this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=43&catid=2053
its pre built, stable oc, properly built and best of all its under warrenty overclockers shipped a faulty peice and they sent a courier out for luckily for me on the same day! 3 days later new ram, im happy boom!
this is mine:
https://nwa-clan.darkbb.com/t1601-well-here-she-is-introducing-big-bertha
and https://nwa-clan.darkbb.com/t3615-show-us-your-gaming-setup-desk-area-room?highlight=desk has a few details of my other rig, a i3 4ghz for video editying, torrents, audio stuff, all sorts

Re: Motherboard
go for it
when I had that grafic card from gigabyte I could google stuff but I couldnt watch a normal movie or youtube clip and my screen turned black..
I was like WTF?!? well I try to reinstall my computer and it didnt work.
so I went back to my old grafic card and I started to google about Gigabyte nvidia GTX560 TI problems.
its allot of people having problem with that grafic card from gigabyte.
so yes I definitely recommend that grafic card from Asus.

Re: Motherboard
Thing is Nayt, I do have a budget. For the items selected the cost is 630 pounds (with the case) and I still have the PSU to buy and the optical drive. I can only go past £700 by a tad.

Re: Motherboard
The thing is, If I were to buy the components separately it would be cheaper. The extra cost is for assembly and overclock, two things which I can (try to) do myself xD

i've got the 300, its a good case. looks nice, stylish and good airflow, however it is quite small and is a little cramped with all the stuff i've got in there (though it all fits fine)

Re: Motherboard
Here is an update on the situation. My dad is being a bit of an arse............
He wants me to buy a prebuilt rig as there is more insurance on the build quality. I found a quasi decent deal on overclockers where they've overclocked the i5 3.3 ghz sandybridge to 4.4 but the ram is reduced to 4g and the hard drive is only 500g.
I told him about the reduced cost of a prebuilt system so that's the main argument lost on him.
Any positives of buying a custom built rig that I can use to argue my case?

Keep it, then get a 1tb on top, in a few weeks that way windows and your main games like pr and stuff can all be on the main HDD and everything else on your big boy drive
