Hotels in London
Me and a friend of mine is taking a short trip to London in august.
We are looking for accomedation. Any suggestions to a cheap bed&breakfast or Hostel. Not a 6 man room. Just a double room or such.

Re: Hotels in London
i wouldn't recommend sleeping out side in London, you could be very seriously abused and you'll probably get moved on by the rozzers at some point, there are however some tolerable night shelters and all around London you will find co-operatives that will take you in for a night or two (as long as you help with whatever concern they are doing, recycling or waste food collection for example) but they are usually full of hippy types tbh. Hotels i would recommend would be The Waldorf Hilton or The Dorchester, they are quite nice so i've heard !!lol!!......on a more serious note, one thing that seems counter-intuitive but is actually the very cheapest way to stay in London is to book into one of the very many camp sites, pick one that has easy access to a tube line and bobs your uncle (well he's Orfords uncle anyway) sounds dodgy ? it isn't honest, and for a few bob more you usually can rent a caravan on the same site for around the same as a B&B (but with all the privacy and freedoms you'll not get in a B&B) http://www.visitlondon.com/category/accommodation/caravan-and-camping
London general pointers, North London is a bit...erm...more civilised than sarf larndan and the moment you think "oh bugger it i'll spoil myself" is the moment London will rip you off like no other city in the world....personally can't stand the place, used to be a DR in the city and i found the font of human ugliness in that place.

Re: Hotels in London
We are going to visit tons of museums too, and ive found this
http://www.londonpass.com/index.php
Is this a good idea?
Any suggestions to what to see? Not only museums, but areas too, like Soho and other areas?

Re: Hotels in London
Try South kensington's Victoria&Albert museum and Science Museum(which is free) - they're across the street one of the other.

Re: Hotels in London
As Zer0 says, there are free places.
I'd check the list of places you can use the Pass at, find the things you're interested in and figure out it it's worth it from that.
Definitely get an Oyster card for travel though, if you don't get the Pass. Although you can buy it before you get to the UK, don't otherwise the deposit is non-refundable.
Soho, Covent Garden, Trafalger Square, the river, Bukingham palace - can do all that in one day, they're close together (so long as you like walking).
Do you know the dates of your trip yet? I might be available for guiding.

Re: Hotels in London
We are going to arrive the 24th in the morning, and we leave again on the 29th.
It would be great if you would play guide. Im going with a close friend of mine Ditte, and ive already made it clear that I intend to visit Royal air force, HMS Belfast and other War related stuff.
How many others are close to London in that time period? What about you Ivan? Or are you out hugging trees?

Haven't been to the RAF museum in years. Wonder if they've got anything new.

Re: Hotels in London
Hendon is Ok, my dad was stationed there in the 1950's but if you can spare the time the best air museum is without doubt the imperial war museum Duxford which is in Cambridgeshire (not to far on a train 1 hour max) and would be far more up your street with open workshops etc they also have a very full flying schedule so try and time it and you'll see lots of very rare aircraft actually flying (the best way to view them in my opinion)
dont go to Soho unless you want to spend 60 Euros (or more) on 2 beers.

Imperial war museum is definitely worth a visit. I loved it when I went (though I was like 12)

London Eye and the BFI's Imax, the imperial war museum, oh and I recommend watching one of the theatre performances like the lion king, quite a nice experience. HMS belfast is alright I remember having a school trip on it with the sole intention of trying to get lost as to spend more time on it lol.

Re: Hotels in London
Nah the riots there have "burned" them self out. So we booked the Sacred Heart Lodge Hotel in Hackney instead to keep it fresh.

Re: Hotels in London
disagree, they will be over very soon once the early morning knock on the doors start, the british police have since the days of 1980's footy hooligans have had a policy of non confrontation in large scale public disturbance but rest assured every single person involved in these pathetic and immature displays of bravado have already been filmed, tagged, and logged for their very own special 10 man team knock on the door at 5:30 am.
the last large scale riots in the UK were about real civil rights and public body abuses, this present stuff is about pretending there is something wrong but really they just want to smash a window for a new pair of trainers.
oo i blame the parents, in my day......
tldr dont worry about it Jev

I'll second that. It's also mostly free as well which is a nice bonus.
I'll also second Speed's post above. Looking forward to some camera shots of those dawn raids when they eventually happen.

Nothing wrong with Soho if you just want to go for a wander and some rather good gelato.
