PR was awesome at 0.1 compared to vBF2 :D

anything PR is an improvement over vArmA in my opinion. I want to love it, but i just cant, the interface blows and completely ruins it for me. Gameplay is great, but I hate AI as well

im really impressed with what they've managed. the armaments menus and stuff are awesome!!! finally, we can CHOOSE what sights we want on our rifleman kit.

ITS SO AWESOME! dragging around stationary TOWs so much thought has gone into stuff can't wait to play it, and yeah that kit selection screen is perfect so easy to use, a lot better than the vanilla A2 ones yet you still have total control!

Things I like: EVERYTHING!

More specifically:

Freeform squad creation, with fireteam settings!! (Not something you can do in vanilla ArmA)
Well thought out logistics chain. Supplies are now essential
Loads of FOB building options.
Commo rose! No more fiddly scroll wheel menus.
Squad formation radar.
Separate repair, refuel, rearm trucks.
Armaments selection screen.

Can't wait!

agreed nayt, I can't really be arsed with all the other add-ons. having just one will be great.

This taken from the manual:

There is also an additional secondary objective which is like an objective in AAS, but
slightly different in result. It’s considered to be a Watchtower or Observation Post.
When this special zone is held by coalition, it will give them some additional IP and
the ticket bleed (caused from this zone) will stop, but if it is held by insurgents, then
it will become a ticket bleed to coalition with no IP benefits. So it’s in the interests of
insurgents to hold this zone too.

Sounds interesting, secondary objective in insurgency

oh jeez, had a look at some of the vid tuts and......erm.....suddenly i feel old....or is it that arma is just very very slow?

also it looks like SL's may well get the lions share of fun (for those very selected few who can master 80 trillion menus simultanously) or am i just panicking ?

does anyone know how long a typical map may last ? or will it be time limited like BfPR ?

will there be a CO-OP mode so old farts might possibly get the hang of it out of the noob headlights ? and if there is perhaps we could run a server for it before we go down the live deploy route, just museing.

is anyone actually following the PRA forums ? what are the expectations of this dev/mod, is it so distinct that there wont be much crossover between Bf and Arma?

ArmA is indeed quite slow. It's much more of a simulator. The old menu system was god awful, and what PR have done to it, bringing over the commo rose system is really great.

I imagine it'll be time limited, Arma is very very customisable, so the PR guys can do whatever they want with their missions essentially.

As far as Im aware, its PVP only, but we'll all be noobs at the beginning?

They are trying to replicate the PR teamwork focused gameplay in ArmA essentially. Also they are trying to streamline the experience, the mod system in ArmA is a pain in the arse imo, they want it so people only have to download 1 thing, and be able to jump into any of the PR servers. I saw UK force say they will be happy if they have 4-5 servers going. So they are starting small at the moment I guess

Haha that's quite a bold statement! But indeed it truly will be a whole other beast.

And no Capitan my HDD is still in the "shop". Luckily I worked for my Dad a bit this summer and the pay was quite nice so if PR:A2 is released before my HDD I'll just get another one! Oh gawd I want another Geforce 580 too. I already have a beast of a machine but one Gfx card is just not enough nowadays!

It is a beta in the fact that pubbers can join a 100 player pvp server. Playing a new game mode with new user interface, its is a beta as far as play testing and limiting it to 1 server per continent to ensure full servers to test the mod.



Once the beta is over, feeback has been given and changes made it will then be released and server licences will be available.



I for one am happy to beta test and be there from the start as far as open beta is concernd.

The only way to get a good game is to test the hell out of it. There is just so much possibility for something to go wrong with video games that you need mass testing to sort it. I can't wait, don't mind if its a bit buggy, won't be worse than Vanilla Arma2 and I paid money for that!

my point being that they removed loadsa stuff from the original release, and now its basically see if this runs well on multiple set ups coz we cant be arsed to do it ourselves, i know ill get the trolls sayin its a free mod, but constant dis-connections and bugs are what put me off pr bf2 at the start.

That and the fact that pr bf2 has been going for ages and its still not perfect, they shoulda scraped pr arma ages ago and focused on pr 2 rant over

I guess this release is to see if the basics work and the intrest ie how many want to play and if they carry on playing.



Also the PR beta testers are a bit more miss than hit. They just seams to want to play the game than report bugs if PRBF2 releases are any thing to go by. SO they letting the publiuc do the first proper test.

deadly = drama queen, optomising arma is hard even with a boss comp, now think about how much more demanding pr was to vanilla then think damn what is pr arma gonna be like. arma in itself is buggy as hell, i just wonder if the pr team can manage to tame this beast. im looking forward to pr arma just not yet, not until peeps on here say its playable

Pfft, I just tried it out for an hour. First I tried connecting to servers that were so shite that i couldnt see anyone move. Then I connected to a server that apparently wasnt an official server. Then I finnaly got in a 'good' server. It was the RIP server, just FYI.
And then it struck me again how awkward the movement is in arma, so stiff I just don't like it at all. Maybe if I put all my settings on low it might be a bit smoother.

I dived straight into the deep and tried squadleading. Then I noticed that almost no-one uses their mic, I had 1 guy that used his mic and I believe he also played BF2: PR, so that was nice. But the movement etc. is so weird and I can hardly get where the shots are coming from, I just didnt have a clue what I was doing.. I might give it another try tommorow on low settings, and just hope for the best. So far I really didnt get any teamplay except for the fact that my squad sticked together, and 1 squad relayed 1 message.

Don't know what to think of it so far. Need to play moar
