Squad leader, placing FOB
Recently when playing, 2/5 times I place a FOB or other assests, I position it upon my head. This instantly kills me and delays me returning to squad and what not. I've tried different tactics, looking further away, running away once placed and some others, but still I randomly deploy it on my head and highly annoys me.
Anyone got a definate tactic to not deploy an assest on your head?

Re: Squad leader, placing FOB
Naytdawg using same tactic as me, place the fob not right by your feet, but place it 10 - 20 m away facing direction you prefer. Another problem when we talking about FOB(s) that I find is that people doesn't choose the place to place it rather "throwing" it out randomly on location. People should look at their surrounding and see what advantage and what disadvantage it may give the FOB! People please place FOB(s) more tactically like hidden in woods, in small hills where covered, or where thermal wont see it easily. Otherwise people will spawn in a place where they can't get out, where the enemy easy can see it and destroy it OR spawn right infront of the crosshair of a LMG!

Re: Squad leader, placing FOB
Try marking the spot 1st with the SL comm rose, then move 10m back, look at the spot & place.
(It is supposed to place object 5m in front of the SL, but because of the BF2 terrain mapping, placing is fairly inaccurate. Some say the placing may be anywhere in the kill radius of a grenade - so 20m maybe best, as Nayt says).
Practising doesn't help, because ever spot on the map will have different terrain parameters which will affect the placing.
If you are with your squad, place a rally point before building the FOB. That way you won't have to wait so long to spawn.

Re: Squad leader, placing FOB
I always consider the best possible tactical position for a FOB.
Thanks for the tip though about 5-10m away, I didn't know it had a set distance ahead to place it. I considered the rally point idea in the past, but just thought I should sort out my technique instead of wasting rally point.
I'll definatly be looking further away though, and probably still running when I place it haha

Re: Squad leader, placing FOB
Remember, SL gets his rally reloaded when he is at a FOB, so you may as well use it. You'll get a new one if you die, also....

Re: Squad leader, placing FOB
From my observation:
Each asset have round base few meters below it supposed ground level which is in fact larger than asset itself and mostly invisible. Exception is hideout which has rectangular base.
Fob spawns around 10 m in front(hideout 8m) of you at high of 20m above the ground, invisible and drops down(each asset do), usually top of fobs base will be at the same level that the bottom of player deploying asset is so you want to stand on rather low ground.
If the deployed, invisible asset make it way down to appear and meets on its path any player it will crash him and move his hit box way below ground making it impossible to revive.
It is possible to bounce asset like fob from statics and placing them in various advantage places but that takes some practice.

alchemist has forgotten more than most will ever know about asset placement, you could do far worse than get an in game tutorial off this guy.
myself i always go prone before FOB placement to achieve the lowest possible profile for the FOB and can't remember the last time it landed on my head (no need to run away after placement etc) also something said implicitly here (in above posts) but i will say explicitly is you AIM the commo rose, aim it on your own feet, expect FOB to land on own head!!
good luck

I know I wasn't playing much recently but I still remember
I forgot one more thing thou. After you press deploy button till fob actually appear if front of you it is in transition and dooring that short time you must look at the spot where you want that fob otherwise it will land elsewhere. Fallow the white pixel ...
