Hitting stuff in PR Empty Hitting stuff in PR

Post by fillsson Fri 5 Aug - 1:03:23

I've always wondered if/how much things like ping, fps and all that affect the accuracy of the weapons in pr.
I mean some days you just can't hit anything and other days enemies drop like flies all around you.
I got about 30 kills with the M4 today on fallujah :lol!:... and I wasn't doing anything else then I regularly do when shooting.
so weird..
Wish I could always hit my shots like that Hitting stuff in PR 666915

Yeah i've noticed this alot also, on certain maps you can seem to pull off shots really easily, and on others - it seems to take 5 shots in the head to kill somebody.
But i'm not sure because sometimes i do really well on those maps also, i just personally think FPS affects your "Steadyness" with a weapon - say if u have like 120FPS its apparanetly a 4 second cooldown for your aim to zero in, but if you have like 10FPS that 4 seconds mabye increased to around 6 or 7 due to the game engine not being substituted for the loss of frames.
Thats just my guess though, but i normally notice its on the maps i get bad fps on when my shots seem to mysteriously miss even though i've pulled the exact - if not harder - shot off before plenty of times.

I think accuracy comes down to:
1. patience

2. mouse sensitivity (i can adjust my mouse sensitivity on the go and it really helps when you have to make pixel perfect shots)

and 3. keeping your cool when the s**t hits the fan and not misclicking

oh and also a lil' bit of luck

I've pulled off some evil shots were i have scoped up and shot 1 bullet instantly! and boom wacked an insurgent in the face.

Other times iv'e been scoped up for 4/5 seconds and missed 3 shots before hitting. ( Online gaming for you! )

i'm not 100% positive, but certainly in older versions the 'cone' of deviation actually never fully disappears, so you can be on for a perfect shot and still miss (particularly if you go for a head shot)

ok there are other factors;

1. the person your shooting at might have diminished health, so 1 shot is all you need.

2. who says your missing the shots ? what you see on your screen at home is the product of your Bf2+mod running on your computer which is why sometimes that HAT shot on that COW that just landed just creates a puff of smoke and the thing flies off happily on its way- you saw the rocket hit-the helicopter moved at 10m a second on take off-the pilot was pinging at 25ms and you at 70-you miss the chopper because you shot at the choppers ghost. the same is true in reverse.

3. mood, your mood is a huge factor, being patient, waiting for engagement rather than pursuing like a COD fiend can only ever help with a mod/game that has deviation

4. altruism is an important factor, dont under estimate the power of pulling together, ever noticed you 'pull off' more shots when your in a good squad ? a squad you actually care about.

5. cone of deviation, when at max deviation your hits aren't around the cones edge, they will hit randomly within the cone which is why sometimes the lucky bugger can run around a corner see you, shoot, and get you right between the eyes....just luck (and what is possible with the 'cone')

6. consider this 'you might not be the only person engaging that target---"got him in my sights, wait for it, boom, oh look hes dead !" says both you and the sniper 500 metres away from you who also shot at the hapless prey.

7. head shots, if your enemy is smart and is constantly taking cover, often the only part left to shoot is his head, in PR pretty much all rifles will kill 1 shot to the head, so if you get him you got him !

8. NEVER under estimate the power of a good squad medic !!!!!! boom..ah head shot !!! "LMG down" yeah good shot dude" rat a tat a tat 1 minute later, "dude thought you said you got the LMG?" - medic laying down smuggly under cover and out of view, "you shoot them, i'll resus them. i'll get the points" this happens much more than you think, you think "ah crap missed, how did i miss, stupid game" nope you got him, he just didn't have the decency to die in front of you that's all, he walked round the corner to give his medic a good chance at resus and then died...but...you have no way of knowing that of course.

9. good days and bad days, if you've ever worked in a factory you will have heard of the friday afternoon-monday morning theory, simply put, you're about to by a new car, would you put up good money for a car made and completed on a monday morning if you knew it was made on monday morning ? answer- NO we all have bad days and bad times of day and we can all succumb to bad periods at any time of the day, hunger, thirst, etc etc the effects of which may well not really register with you consciously but will show up in your performance.

its a good day, your feeling good about your self, your in a good squad, your on a good team, your being patient, and your first shot lands directly between the eyes of the enemies medic, 2 minutes later your up 6 kills.

The thing I hate the most is when all you can see is a guys head and you hit it 2-3 times and all you get is a small puff and then a second later he runs off..

Xazper, i refer you to number 2 in my list, you see your enemy, you shoot, you hit, so far everything (apart from you seeing another player) is a function of your computer, not a function of your opponent and has only a limited amount to do with the server, so, you shoot at him as you and (a little time later) the server see's it, now in that relationship if your opponent has moved but the server and your computer hasn't 'seen' this (due to ping) you will see that you hit him (which is a product, as said, of your game playing on your computer through your graphics card) whereas in actual fact you just shot his digital ghost..........
dont under estimate the power of ping, a 50-100 ms difference is all thats needed to make hitting targets difficult, infact people who can really master playing with high ping values can become first person shooter gods, i once knew an Aussie that routinely had a ping on my old clans servers of 360ms+ and he was almost unkillable, yet he had mastered the art of shooting where you he thought you were going, CQB god at vBf2....

Also, at larger distances not every little hill/rock/bit of grass is rendered. This is true even on maximum settings. So while you clearly see your opponents head, and hit it on your screen, you are in fact most likely hitting the terrain your enemy is hidden behind.

What I hate is when you peak out the side of a wall, you get shot at and run back for cover. Once you're in cover you die anyway because of the hitbox is following you to far back and the shooter hits the hitbox even though your actual character is behind the cover.

thanks Deadly, about the line breaks, i post onto these forums using 2 machines, 1 using vista 32 (gaming rig) the other using 7 pro 64 (lappy), when i post on the lappy this site condenses everything into 1 big paragraph !! have no idea why. both comps accessing this site using I.E...so yeah you can see the difference in the 2 posts in this thread and now this one (on the lappy again).........often use lots of full stops to try and break up the paragraph.........like that.......so who knows........perhaps everyone but me ?......me being a durp ?....dont know.....lifes to short to try and sort it out i suppose

Hitting stuff in PR Double-facepalm

Hold. Back. Rage.

Riiiiiiiight. www.google.co.uk/chrome - The answer to all your issues. Aswell as now not using that slow hunk of shite, It'll probably work better too. I prefer chrome for being lighter and faster, but Firefox is a faster and better IE in every aspect, and effectively rugby tackles any shite that IE can't do.

On topic,Yeah, my shots seem to fluctuate, mainly on mood. My Tacticool killer approach never works properly, yet when I'm with a good squad and I'm just up for it, I can seriously put some hurt down. Not often, but it's like a little switch that just makes me into PWN mode.
