CPU cooler fitting issue
Started working on building my new comp today, got the CPU in ok without any hassle then i put the stock fan on it ( it is on the correct way) and the clips dont fit on the latches that comes with the mother board, like you HAVE TO FIT ONE CLIP FROM THE FAN ONTO A HOOK THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE MOTHER BOARD AND THEN ON THE OTHERSIDE OF THE COOLER ATTACH THE OTHER CLIP TO ANOTHER HOOK AND THEN LOCK IT INTO PLACE WITH LIKE A LEVER KIND OF THING the clips are ridiculously so close to fitting but won't clip on, do i man up and apply more pressure or will it damage the pins at the bottom of the CPU? (sorry about the crazy caps there can't be arsed deleting and re typing)
Motherboard - Asrock 970 exteme4
CPU - AMD FX 6200 black edition
CPU cooler - Stock
Anyone had any similar problems with fitting there coolers? does anyone have the same mobo and cpu as me that can guide me a bit better?
Any help would be awesome, any suggestions?

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
stock coolers should be quite simple.
if the cpu is correctly inserted into its base you can hardly damage the cpu.
i have no experience with AMD (intelfag here ) but on my building i had to put quite some pressure on the cooler to lock it in.
if still not fitting look if there's a way to extend the clips (designers could have weird ideas some times) or try to lock in one side first.
and if nothing goes, call geek squad

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
Don't take my advice but.. Man up, I always find that coolers are ridicolously hard to get on and really take some umpfh to get set.
I also have an AMD (phenom II x6 - AM3/AM3+ pins) with stock cooler and was quite scared to put so much pressure on it too, but after that it was all good.
@Chris, the thing that makes that picture is the cat in the bottom right

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
if it is the same as the old AM2 coolers then you have to apply a fair amount of pressure to get the second hook over, the bar in the middle that the hooks are attached too should slide a little to help getting the second one on.

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
haha that picture, if it means getting my comp built and set up without fail id happly have him round with the cat.
hmm yeah i think applying more pressure makes sense because its soo close at hooking onto it i'm just not comfortable with the pressure i was applying had an image in my head of all them pins being flattened

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
Loose the cooler. Just get a feel how the mount works. Youtube it. Put it on amd off twics. Then paste it (small pea size blob in the middle) and slip it on.
I remember those hook one side. Presure the other. Nasty. But f you have to put more pressure than you feel it should be its proberly too much

Re: CPU cooler fitting issue
wiring is the easy part
I hate the cables for reset switch and power switch but they are still easy to place
