Reformating Comp

I really want to do this but im new on this,

i think u get a OS disk which i will dl the from a torrent,
then save the important folder, pics, vids etc..
but what drivers do i need to keep? where would i find them on my comp? and is ther anything else i need to know?

I reckon u should get some one else to do it.

Download all the drivers for all the stuff you have on your PC. Copy them to a DVD along with the file needed to get the OS working once installed. Format the hard drive using the OS install utility. Install chipset drivers for the mobo and any onboard mobo stuff ie metwork sound processor and USB bus. then video then sound ,then any thing else printer joystick etc etc. Then run manual update avoid any thing you shouldnt update see readme in OS installer files.

Easy really. I got a propper copy of vista 64 so be warned torrent copys tend to stop working with out warning if M$ injects a fix via auto upddate.

always best to get the real deal OS on a disk!! downloading it is just asking for trouble!!

Ive got my anti virsus all set back up so safe to use internet and got Xfire, BF2+PR with all patches getttin TS as i speak... oh and got NwA webby back in my fravourites

it all depends on what u have bit starting from the ones to install first.

mother board drivers.
for example.
CPU chipset drives, sound drivers (if onboard) USB controler etc etc they should all come from your mobo makers web site. tailored for win 7.
the display.
sound.
keyboard.
mouse.
joystick.
printer.

I dont know what make and model of the above you have but you will know that go to the makers web side and download the win 7 drivers

ok i think Windows 7 has installed all my drivers automatically :silent: i think because the RED text i know for defo are working. but would they work anyway?

keyboard, mouse, stick ect should just be plug and play, no drivers required. but sound, graphics, motherboard ect you will need to download, dont just assume the OS has done it for you, there maybe updates.

and dont forget windows update ect... dunno what service pack windows 7 needs...

yep it has its done everything for me , just checked with a R-TEC from PR forums

cool, you should still run windows update several times in a row, as it may need to update stuff before it can update other stuff, if you catch my drift!! bit pissed now..

The only thing i can add is the hardware makers make/test new drivers first release them as driver updates to users. Then make drivers to add into windows. I have a ATI 4870 graphics card and the drivers windows installs gives me good graphics but dosnt give me the ATI control panel or HD audio output and the ATI overdrive for over clocking. Its always best to get the drivers from the makers web site so ALL feature of your hardware works.

You guy's running win7 with the timebomb still active? What i mean by timebomb is that in x ammount of days win7 stops working. Im not running win7 yet, how does it compare to the cr*ppy Vista?

awww mate i have had XP / Vista and now Windows 7(BETA) and it is the best, it is nice and smooth and as of the running out date, it runs out in October 2010 but hopefully Windows 7 will be out then.

but if u get this, make sure ur grfx card drivers are ok for windows 7 because mine was not i had to get a computer geek make one for me and lucky enough its worked.

I recommend windows 7 to anyone.

yest dl the 7600 build but the stupid fook that uplood the iso did not put a
boot.ini file so i will try to dl a new 1
