4" swinden vice
here is an ebay link to something i found on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270976083376?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648
as a former engineer i can say without hesitation this is the best vice ever made.
there is NO way i could talk the missus into this as i got a record 35 relatively recently so i thought i would put this up here for anyone to look at.
its collection only in derby but don't let that put you off, this vice is the real deal and at that buy it now price it's an absolute bargain (you'll save hundreds and hundreds of pounds)
these vices are as rare as rocking horse s**t, in fact you may never get a chance to own another in your life for this price.
looking at it it's probably either ex army or ex british rail, either way a real and rare bargain.

I'm not sure if this is a troll, and I'm not sure if you're the one selling it? And I'm not sure what the hell it is

no troll and no i'm not selling it.
it's a vice, it is used to hold things that human hands couldn't hold steady whilst you work on (the thing).
this vice is the Rolls Royce of vices and is usually only sold to large corporations and institutions as they are the only people who can afford them and they very rarely sell them on.
they are the holy grail if you weld.
or is talking tools with an 'e' generation a waste of time ? can you change the fuse in a plug ? if you can't one day the electricity may run out and then you'll simply die. sad times.

Re: 4" swinden vice
After doing a bit of welding, and using the vices and stuff they used, I could see how this would be useful to a company, but not to me right now, and definitely not for £100

Speed, I can re-wire a plug.
I do appreciate this piece of equipment, I have heard of It's legacy, but I have a perfectly good vice strapped to the bench in my garage, although this would make some jobs a lot easier I can still get by...horizontally.
(Strangely enough, having heard of this vice, but never laid eyes on one until now that is)

I Love it Speed. Its beautiful. Our rocket group also has a 17 tons lathe from germany made in the 1940. Probably used in the war production. Old as grandpa, but a beaut.
