Xombie AAR
Right where to begin?
I want to add that the starting parameters weren't the best ones. Not sure about the difficulty level but it is recommended to use Expert with random spawns. This is where your navigation instinct should kick in. Heading straight to a town and finding the nearest car with either a radio or a GPS. Fog should hamper your progress a little bit and hiding all the nasties inside the towns.
First off we started pretty close to eachother. Its a big advantage you get early on in the map and you actually lose the first half of the game. This part is when you should find each other but we skipped it. Most of you guys ran into the same vehicle which is a good thing but it is best to stick to the faster jeeps and vehicles with GPS. The reason being is that the trucks are slow and mainly used to lug around pieces of cover scattered across the map. Although there was only the truck available and a lot of us it was a good decision. Sadly at that point you lost visual with me. I started to look for radios so when we did regroup we would at least have 2 radios to communicate with.
We tried regrouping several times. From my point of view I went to the airfield several times with the promise of the main group being there. I tried raising anyone that was listening on the big radios but I never got any replies. Sadly after multiple attempts we did not manage to link up. So I called in that I was proceeding towards the crash site. John and guy-who-I-keep-forgetting-his-name had the same idea and we re-organised half way. At this point I completely lost contact with the main group. Our group however managed to drive towards the crash site and found a couple of crates. Weapons and explosives mostly. The guards were all dead at this point. Must have been the xombies.
Somehow Snippers arrived at the crash site and we gave him some weapons. Quite surprising seeing as he had a hard time dealing with his ACRE breakdown.
All of us then decided to roll on to the next objective. The group that consisted of Snippers, John, John Doe and myself found an abandoned medical humvee. Jumping on the opportunity to heal yourself was quite big so bringing it along just seemed like the best thing to do.
This is when we all converted on the FOBs' location and had a big reunion. It was dawn at that point so we turned off our NVGs. We all know what happened next. We drove towards the xombie "horde" that simple was not there. Maybe it was only partly coded or there was a parameter limit of 10 xombies or something. Either way it was a bust and highly anti-climactic. I'm sorry if that was the first time you played the addon. It really felt like it was dragging on in the end.
I also want to mention that people kept joining in during the playthrough and that hampered a lot of movement. You cannot leave them alone to fend for themselves but we cannot keep going back to find them.

Maybe after this Xasper can tell us what he thinks of it as he is playing it with me at 3 AM in the morning. Hopefully with the lights turned off!
Right so Xasper and I have been playing a while now on the map and it has proven to be quite difficult. The first hour we used the hardcore setting. I tell you, it is hard to see anything past 10 meters. Makes it harder to find a town but it really gives a great deal of satisfaction if you do manage it. And also a creepy vibe. Alone in the dark. Listening to every step.
The second hour we used a more relaxed setting. Added a little bit of fog but not enough that it would be impossible to see anything. Though it was more fast-paced and you could finally find weapon caches in towns it was a lot less scary and a lot less satisfactory. A balance will have to be struck here. Less view range but not that it would handicap you. Your mind still has to fill in the blanks. Like Amnesia for example.
The script spawns xombies all around you and it is hard holding them off with only us two. During respawns you can spawn waaay out in the desert if you are unlucky. So I've decided that spawning in random villages might be the best aproach. I've personally ran around for more than an hour during the play session and frankly it drove me insane. Best to do this when you have got a lot of patience.
I encourage everyone who participated to tell what happened. I have no idea how some of you guys made it to the FOB. Frankly I was shocked you all weren't xombie chow.
Though some things popped up in my head during this play:
- Maybe add in a hunger and thirst parameter to give the player more incentive to find supplies?
- Different group spawns?
- Allied NPC to buy from?
- Repairshops
Anyways it is past 4 AM now and I just want to sleep. X_X
P.S: Orange, you mad about my *new* avatar?

Re: Xombie AAR
Not sure, but are there like random crates in the houses? For example, there could be something at start in the airport barracks' to look for? Otherwise they're just empty.

Me and Vince just spent some time roaming around.. we headed over to the police st. to see if there was any supplies. There was a police officer standing at the main entrance, so vince covered me as i crept up to him to ask him if he was ok.. he turn his head at me and said NNRRAAARRRR! i s**t my pants and blew his brains out my accident! next thing we no about 8 f*****g Z's ran out of the Police st. and fucked me up! vince calmy picked them all off 1 by 1 then treated my wounds. We then headed to the top floor of the Station grabbed a radio and some ammo.. then Pectus convinced my to go play PR with him =D its been a looong time!

Re: Xombie AAR
I think it was great. I really liked the hardcore setting we played on. Driving along a road was dangerous with all that fog, and towns were creepy as hell. I think 10-30 meter view range is a little low though. Maybe bump it up to 60 would be nice. Not being able to see to the other side of the street was eerie as hell and exciting but also made it near impossible to find anything.
Like I wrote on TS when I left it was almost impossible to hold the point with just the 2 of us. (Da-fort ran around and gathered all the Z's and I just sat on a hill with a RPK, then he turn the corner, jump in a car, and like 20-25 Z's are after him!) I can see that spawning a few behind the player makes it more movie-like where one always seem to come out of a corner and eat someone, but when 30 Z's are rushing you from the town and there's nothing but desert behind you it gets a little annoying, especially if you just checked that area.
I was quite annoyed with how far the zombies could hit you. Often I was more than 10-20 meters away and I still got scratched by one I passed several seconds earlier. Also it's very annoying to finally find a car or a truck, only to be hit once or twice by a Z and have it explode. IMO vehicles should be somewhat more resistant to Z's.
All in all very fun, lots of walking in middle of nowhere (spawning in or near a town would be a good idea) and the short view makes it very scary.
