Awesome, have you got alink to the full size image. Would like the second one as my desktop. I've flown out of Conningsby loads of time when flying for vRAF. Virtual RAF.

Re: RAF CONNINGSBY SUNSET
when i was 5 we moved to Branston (dad stationed at Digby), anyway Branston was the engine refurbishment test zone for EE lightnings, so basically what they would do is a vertical climb with both Avons on afterburn RIGHT ABOVE MY HOUSE !!!!
for those too young
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Electric_Lightning
also memorable was the low fly pasts of Victors and Vulcans that were an almost daily occurrence, happy days indeed.
lovely pictures btw much appreciated.

Re: RAF CONNINGSBY SUNSET
Why is only one engine lit on that Typhoon..? Or am I missing something?
Speed, sounds great.
A decade ago when I was a kid we had a lot of different types flying over - Bearing in mind this was the Lake District. Jaguars, F-15's, Tornados, etc.
Not as many types now, and not as frequent

Re: RAF CONNINGSBY SUNSET
Looks like an intended single engine take off test. They do touch and goes to reduce the strain on the engines. Not needing to accelerate to take off speed from a standing start with one engine or shutting down an engine mid take if run.
Normally done when procedures and pilots need to be checked out if there hours are low or they haven't done the procedure for bird strike take off recovery for a while.
Or even practasing single engine landings, same reason as above.
If you look at the rudder its well trimmed over so single engine landing and take off practise would be the answer.
OCU checkout, had me doing 30knt cross wind landing in a C130 full realism sim. Oh the joys. Wouldn't want to do it real world.
