New Lappy
Need some help choosing a lappy.
I wanna get the kids a new lappy for xmas and would appreciate some help choosing one with a high Bang for Buck ratio.
Willing to spend £450.00 max

I don't know how old your kids are, but It's got pretty much anything in the way of an "all-in-one", Webcam, wireless, Bluetooth and all that jazz, aswell as a decent spec. Just border's under your budget though!

pcworld has an i3 dell for £399 but only 3gb of ram. Has all of the extras as its £250 off, HDMI out 500gb HDD etc etc.

are your kids gonna be gaming on the thing? if not 3gb of RAM is plenty? I barely touch 2 gb when I'm not gaming on w7

thing is with 3 gb, you'll get "slower" performance then with 4 or 2 gb, because they use something called DIMM (laptops use SO-DIMM), which stands for Dual in-line memory module, if i'm not mistaking that means that they are faster when they are in group, aka slot 1 & slot 3 work together and slot 2 & 4, but if you only have 3, one gets left out.. that's the short story of it, but please correct me if i'm wrong.

its possibly one stick of 3gb? so no slow down issues there? although knowing dell it could well be 3 1gb sticks. who knows
