Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
I just saw a video right before he's alive, you can find it on Liveleak.
It's quite tragic to see anyone like that,
but in the end, he got what he deserved.
(Btw, now Libya is gonna be even more fucked up)

Shame he was killed tbh, a trial would have been far more interesting. I bet he knew tons of dirty secrets about our governments.

Death was too good for him, he should have been taken to a soundproofed room on an aircraft carrier and 'questioned' by the CIA.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
I think the 9mm to the head was the best thing the rebels could of done to him, imagine hunting someone down for so long finally catching the RAT and then have him taken away from you by foreigners! But also Cap i understand what you mean, He would have had alot of answer's about Lockerby and many other things. "but the rebels worked very hard and they deserved the right to do what ever they wanted to him.
Live leak has some good footage, "not everyone's cuppa T tho!"
I really thought they was gunna behead him, am glad they didn't and the Rebels still had the respect to end him swiftly with a colt <-- i think

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Mm, Although.. He shouldn't of been killed. The trial would've been more just, because remember the majority of IRA AK-47's were Libyan arms, Lockerby Bombings he allegedly arranged.. It's good to see someone so evil get off the world, but he should've been left to rot.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Don't forget the .50's they shot a lynx down with and plastic explosives to blow apart infantry.
I wouldn't have wanted to see him go to trial, it would have dignified him, when he deserves no dignity, and would have allowed himself a soapbox from which he could make headlines.
Perhaps they could have tied him behind a truck and dragged him through the streets, that would be apt.
But i'd hate to have seen him in a western courtroom, freshly shaved and having received medical attention. We have a very 'fair' system that doesn't suit trying despots [we all bloody know he's guilty].

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
agree, a trial at the ICC would have been very frustrating, i think we in the west have forgotten what despotism is about for the victims.
Libya's future looks bright to me, they do after all produce 7% of the worlds oil and it light sweet crude which is the stuff they use for PETROL....
Salute to the Libyans, they have shown the world righteous bravery without the embarrassment of having their revolution done for them and all the rubbish that follows that.
its good news for Libya but let us not forget,
North Korea,
Iran,
Zimbabwe,
North Sudan,
Yemen,
Saudi Arabia,
Bahrain,
Tibet,
Venezuela,
etc,etc,etc
if UN directive Libya 1973 could be worked into UN constitution there is a chance that the human condition might well be very improved even in my lifetime, alas i'm no fan of the UN and have no confidence in the institution, the internal conflicts, conflicts of interest, and hidden agendas make it very near impotent.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Dont forget that even if gaddafi made some people suffer, most of libyans were happy. Libya became one of the most developt country in africa.
And btw, know there will propably be several armed groups fightning for that oil.
I think that trial would be very good, he must have known lots of dirty secrets about western goverments.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Everyone seems to think that Iran is such a huge threat to everyone. Everyone thinks that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is such a huge threat to other countries. No one seems to know though that Ahmadinejad isn't even the leader of Iran.
Iran is ruled by a (Guardian) Council of 12, who decide on everything Ahmadinejad does. And most of the time they -disagree- with what he does and proposes. Oh, and above that council is their 'religious' leader, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It is he who determines Iran's nuclear strategy, controls their armed forces and foreign policies.
The more you know ....

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Sounds like Russia, but more blatant.
People moan about the monstrous in-house favouritism and basic corruption in developed Western countries (look at the U.S., G.B., and Italy), but that tends to overlook the much more blatant and immediate corruption present in crap countries.
in short, " '.. back in the USSR..' You Don't know how lucky you are.." [Metaphor]

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
@ Tarra, sorry but the majority of Libyans would disagree with you about being happy under the previous regime or did you miss the news the past 8 months....
@ Nixy, your missing my (the) point, Iran is the biggest threat to its own people, any modern western country could squash Iran in days flat but as recent history shows, that strategy is very costly (think Iraq).
don't forget that the Arab spring started with the green movement in Iran and sadly its Iranians that have been crushed by their own corrupt government (whichever guise it takes).
the point i tried to get across was, do we (the west/the rest) get the UN to practice 'the protection of civilians' as we have done in Libya when the people of Syria/Iran/Yemen/Saudi Arabia asks us ?
my suspicion is that the answer is no.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Speed I meant that they are happy compared to most other african countries.
Basic education is free for everyone, 82% of the people can read. Also libya built this awesome river system to provide water into saharan desert.
Now what other african countries has accomplished that.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
agreed Africa is a sorry mess, i worked with a Zulu, Mpune, after getting her doctorate at Birmingham uni in black eyed peas (drought resistant etc) she went back to Africa and first worked in Kenya, she hated the place (one of the more stable countries) but after the military house arrested pretty much the whole institute she worked at for 5 months she left.
she then tried Nigeria, the institute she worked at there was euro funded but that didn't stop the government selling the place illegally.
next was somewhere i can't remember but when she got there the institute had clearly been closed for over 20 years, she suspected she was about to be used as a political pawn so she left very quickly and quietly.
she's now back in SA not helping Africa feed herself......

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Oh, Tarra, it's very well building irrigation for the masses - but what funds that? Bankrupting the people.
Libya is considered an LEDC (Less Economically Developed Country) because the GDP is low, because Gaddafi's regime revolved around Oil and Gold, and for his own personal funds. Any idiot can steal money behind closed doors, then immediately look the good leader by building these things "for the people", yet really it was from the people he had the means to do that.
Also.. Gaddaffi was a fool. He'd rather spend money trying to become "King of Africa", when they rejected him after taking all his "gifts". (don't mean to offend any Germans here) Hitler did AMAZING things for Germany - the place was in the middle of a horrid recession, and he sprung up jobs for the people, and a better standard of living for the german people. Just because he was evil, is what brought him down. Had he not had an obsession for the perfect race, or any of his evil and sadistic ideals, his Leadership alone was of significant quality.
Now, to clarify, I don't agree with ANY of Hitler's Ideals, I'm not a follower, and I've witness his evil first hand at Auschwitz, and Safe to Say he's possibly the most evil man to ever have disgraced our planet. Just simply what he did for the german economy was good.

Re: Another Dictator bites the dust.
Voodoo, with respect, Hitler came to power off the back of the discontent caused by an economic crisis. And once he was in power he profited (politically) from the inevitable 'boom'.
Basically it was right place, right time. If there had been a third crisis it could have been a communist dictator fighting WW2 (although that's a bit hyperbolic tbh).
As far as I was aware Ghaddafi made the most of the 1970's free-ing of the economies and made Libya profit handsomely from OPEC by allowing them to shrug off the oil companies of the West and rig oil prices (this at a time when we were installing and deposing rulers of these nations on a whim over oil). I don't know anything really about Gaddafi though, so that could be bollocks.
