RTFM!
Read the ****ing manual,.
That's what they allways say to new people.
That's what I allways say to new people.
But after playing PR for quite a few years (ever since the first versions) I still have never really read the manual myself.
Now, my friends, during the 'lagg chaos times' caused by the blamed-by-many-alpha-networks I can say I have read the manual.
Most of it I skipped, because most of it is very obvious and which I know allready.
But I found out that the commander role actually is quite interresting and could be used better than it is now, especially in a server like the NwA one.
Now it is only used for Jdams etc.
But if the UAVs, team-commander rally points, waypoints with their exclusive intell and a organising character were used to their best,.. it would take the gameplay tonew limits, I think.
Now we just need people who would want to do that, lol.
Read the manual and get excited.
blablabla.

Re: RTFM!
Hitman USED to command like a boss, before he got all good and cocky about his squad leading role.
I think I'm gonna squad lead tomorrow or the day after, it's interesting haha.

Re: RTFM!
UAV has been temporarily removed because of the aforementioned bugs. Was quite fun to use, though bloody hard to actually mark tangos as you couldn't easily correlate what you were seeing to a location on the map.
I have seen the waypoints used of occasion. And even a commander rally once I think!

Re: RTFM!
Manual is good to read, especially the rifleman part if you don't like to lead a squad. Just to be a good-all-around player, I suggest reading the whole manual. I did that 4 times. lol

Re: RTFM!
Yeah, I've been reading the manual on occasion as well. More than once. You somehow keep forgetting things, and reading the manual (takes like 10 minutes) will refresh your memory on things.

Re: RTFM!
I've tried the commander role out with most possibilities on assault on mestia, I think that was version 0.9 or something,.. where the UAV still was working,.. But as assault on mestia is quite small, and too many trees to actually see something I forgot about commander stuff.
Really lame that it doesn't work now,.
Though, those commander set rally points would still be really great
blablabla.
I normally allways was squad leader when playing with other friends who stopped playing, but now on the nwa server I can finnaly try out other infantry roles again, yay!

Re: RTFM!
The commander position is quite unpopular at the moment as the UAV had been disabled due to problems with it. But once you get to command a team which actually listens to your orders, a simple game such as BF2 turns to be an exciting RTS for a moment.

Re: RTFM!
I think it's partly the mentality of players you need in a server, and I think the nwa server attracts players with the right mentality.
Also it's part psychology, just liek squad leaders, not everyone fits the role.
And a very important thing is having the right voice for something like that.
I haven't heard every voice of this clan, but I think the voices of speedhound and scotty could be accepted as commanding voices.
But than again, commanders need to not stress-out too quick and get the squad leaders on their hands.
But still the commander role can be quite boring as you don't have your own team to talk about nonsense, which you really need to have fun.
blablabla.
Just brainstorming about the commanders lately.

Re: RTFM!
Still I think it adds a lot, especially when you get all those SL's organised, there's allways a plan, and sometimes one squad leader takes up this role by himself, or none does.
There's allways a alpha dog, and I think we need him.
We don't really need the commander as in commanding, but just to watch and help out by communicating and using the special assets the commander has, blablabla
Without the commander, it works, but we have never seen a commander doing it's job correctly.
We've got to find some people to fit the job, and if we still don't like them, kill them all.

Re: RTFM!
I agree with Viglen, I think the lack of UAV and the presence of mumble squad leader channel, the commander role is limited to JDam. Maybe they need to add more priviledges to being or having a Commander on the team. Maybe +50 tickets to the side with a Commander.

Re: RTFM!
for anything to get better we need mumble built in, and have sql actually talking to other sql's for coordinated attacks for evac/eod ect. and motivated people working together to get it done.
asking for random people to get everything squared away reading or not is a hard thing to do, the mod needs to get squared away and simplified, doubt this will happen. To many buttons to set right, which is something everybody has a different key for. like mumble, lot of people when they key up their mics are combat ineffective.
so much to talk about it's easy to lose oneself

Re: RTFM!
I got my mumble for the scroller so I can easily click it in, and Teamspeak for the side buttons (however that mouse broke :/)

Re: RTFM!
johns going to kill us because we are not talking about whatever he's talking about...
i got mumble left windows key(that makes me able to key up walk around and shoot with no issue), and mumble sql channel middle mouse button, thumb buttons for the mouse i have 2 (deathadder) one regular mic and other map which is usually always zoomed in all the way and so i use tab to see full map when i need to. I'll tell you what i press that map key on my thumb a lot, idk how people don't that's prob why i see soandso [Teamkills] soandso a lot. I rarely team kill but if i do or just make them bleed i go out of my way and heal/get them up no questions.

Re: RTFM!
I made a thread some time ago about commanding.
I would love to do some commanding, even though Mumble made commander less necessary and the UAV is absent.
Squads coordinate and work good on NWA. But that doesn't mean a watchful eye couldn't help. A commander could change the tactics of a battle with markers and VOIP help if the squad leaders give some basic intel over Mumble Squad leader channel.
