Battlestar Galatica (the new series) is a very good watch too.

Im currently watching fringe, great show, but you mentioned that above. Most interesting drama i've seen recently was Breaking Bad. The dad (Hal from malcolm in the middle) is really excellent. I thought Chuck was pretty decent as well.

If you fancy some comedy, try these:
Arrested Development (best US sitcom ever)
The Office US (actually really good)
The Venture Bros

Boardwalk Empire - great series, times of Al Capone, really good HBO production

and so is Spartacus ! Blood and sand from 2010 is must watch.

V - Visitors, I didn't see 80's show but recent one is worth watching.

& Weeds - a lot of fun, honestly...
