Win8 Empty Win8

Post by ivandobsky Sat 16 Jun - 17:11:33

I just installed Windows 8 Release Review on a Dell Dimension 9200

Seems pretty smooth - Just Win7 with a few gimmicks, much nicer than the XP that it's replaced..

Anyone using it?

I was worried about potential compatibility issues with Win8, so I didn't get it. Have you encountered any?

Yeah, there's no 'start' button bottom left, just an area where you click to bring up that screen - or remove it.

I'm using the newest Windows 8,consumer preview and not one problem. Used PB updater from here. http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php [evenbalance.com] get the for all windows games version. Extract and run as admin. BF3,BFBC2,BF2,MOH,COD,Dirt3,Homefront and others run great. My pc RAPES Windows 8! Loves it! Runs fast!

Jay, I'm running it on the same machine as you've got.
It's a bit of an experiment atm plus, it's FREE to download!
The main difference I've found is with the Task Manager which is a much better GUI. Everything else I've tried is EXACTLY the same as Win7.

I'd recommend it only to those dinosaurs still running XP (& who have 4GB RAM)

I've tried Windows 8 Costumer Preview for a couple of months and is really nice change. There are some good improvements (especially in the lightness off the OS itself) but there are also some integrated cool features. Like an inbuilt image mounter. I like this a lot, I'm the guy who has as minimal software as possible. Just a few programs to run it smooth. The Security Essentials is also built-in (which you can remove). Sure DEAMON Tools provides more options but is a nice addition to the OS. By the way, most of the software is already supported. However there are exceptions.

I'm currently having Windows 7 Professional 64 bits. Most of the people have Windows 7 Ultimate but do not really know what the difference is between the OSes. I mean did you know that Ultimate is a heaver OS to run. It has useless extras for most people (active language changer, AppLocker, Federated Search, Branche Cache, BitLocker). Those stuff are usefull in company networks, not at home (unless you are a father of 200+ children ofcourse). Professional does support the same amount of RAM as Ultimate (192Gb if I remember) so I don't really see why I should use Ultimate. Anyway! That is just my opinion. Rolling Eyes

Been working on this today Crying or Very sad I get kicked with:

PB Restriction: Unknown Windows API Function

PB doesn't recognise some of the new OS files apparently.

The official line from Even Balance:

"Even Balance does not officially support beta or release candidate operating systems. Once Windows 8 is released commercially, full PunkBuster support is planned."
