Commander + Mumble ? Empty Commander + Mumble ?

Post by JToTheDog Thu 10 Mar - 2:15:40

I'm not satisfied with the squad leading skill of the general Sql in PR. So I am thinking of piking up the the slack. I'm definitely not the greatest sql ever as I have only done it a few times, but I prioritise team play over most things (coordinating with armor, using mumble ect.), which is absent in game to often.
I almost cry sometimes when I see a Stryker going one way, inf another and another inf some other way, only to get wiped out.

Of course, it all depends on who is using the assets, squad leading and if they're all on mumble.

Then I got to thinking. I always wanted to command. So, is mumble a good way of listening to sql and getting coordinated, or just a second useless radio? (Using cmndr radio for individual coms with sqd of course)

Do you guys even think commanders are needed when mumble is being used?
Any input on commanding would be cool. Discuss!

Mumble has the advantage that you can monitor the inter-squad chat without them directly addressing you and it has less lag. BF VOIP is still god for getting the attention of a single squad or someone without Mumble.

Cmdr can have a devastating effect on the enemy but only if the person doing it fulfills several things.

1. he never quits no matter what the outcome

2. he gains real experience in the role (both good and bad)

3. he becomes respected by enough of the regular players to be obeyed by the majority of the team the majority of the time.

once these factors are in place the team with a coherent plan set out by an experienced commander will almost always succeed, for example, people are always saying "the side with mumble most often wins" but reduce that statement and the synthesis is "the side with mumble wins most often because the side with the most mumble users PLAN more often than the side without"

how could a commander that understands and can implement the above be anything but a force for good for his team ?

tl/dr planned team work wins rounds, a commander and mumble = double win of epic amazing epicness....

Thanks for the input.

I think I might give it a try.
I'm not sure if I ever will fullfill all of those point, but I will try.
I love the whole, planing, coordinating, getting it to work logicically and so on.

I won't abandon Inf or Sqling but, seems to fun to pass on it.

dont for get if you want to talk to a squad click that squad and press B then only that squad hears you. If you want to talk to the hole team press V. VOIP Commands.

As for commanding alot of players want it but dont come over as errrrr buuutttt hang on iiiii. You need to have a clear statment before you open your mouth or they will eat you alive. Some PR players are real life wiki freaks who will read and read and read on military stratagy and call you a noob at the first chance.

I enjoyed commanding when I did it and got good feed back and was requested round after round until I wanted to get back to playiing. MMMMMmmmm theres a though might get back into it just command until i can get me head around being a SL and fighting and doing admin stuff.

Had some real good matches as Commander mostly as Bluefor on Insurgency but I suppose that's against particularly uncoordinated teams, never really tried AAS though so it's something I can work on.

Yeah, I know about the individual squad voip Orford, thanks though.
I'll do some more SLing and see if I can get a hang of it, and not get snipped and loose a ton of assets on kokan (speed?), before I go commanding.
Why do you hate playing with Commander Jay?

You know, I don't think I've ever been in a game with a commander. I'd quite like to see what effect they have :)

Commander + Mumble ? Empty Re: Commander + Mumble ?

I think the commander has a limited role atm, without the UAV the commander is in a sort of awkward situation where he has to assess the situation either through the squads intel, which can be incredibly awkward and unsure, or through being in on the action and assessing the situation through his own eyes which can be dangerous and can potentially leave the team without any direction if he ends up getting killed.

The commander atm needs to give the team generalised orders and to leave the squads to do their thing, too much micromanagement on the commanders part will only leave the team in potentially more danger.

I find that an INF SL squad giving generalised orders to the team works in exactly the same way as a commander and thats probably why you don't see a commander as often as you would like because really...they aren't needed.

Having a comander on AAS with a clear strategy and sqds that listen and report back is invaluable.

Team SL's that are listening and are responsive are verry fking rare...usually u have like 2 or 3 SL max who are spamming com channel asking for orders. bad part is you cannot use them all the time...you have 9 squads after all.
Commander role needs some overhaul : permission to build FOB's, UAV,comfirming mortar fire missions. Now the comm is that guy who takes the role for a JDAM strike. End of it. Even myself, i take the commander just to build a FOB(a well placed one) logistic truck resupply role, enemy markers taken from chat and area atack. Why? No one gives a crap about commander role, and im not the best commander, not even average but its better than nothing.
Only time when the game is played nice, is when NWA/regulars are present on server in big numbers...thats when gameplay improves.

Just dont like getting told were to go and stuff =]

I like to make my own decisions as a Squad Leader,

And prefer the game played working with the other squads through mumble SL's...

Its good to have a commander to mark on the map etc...

but i hate being told were to go when am playin.

Ah but Scotty you listen to me when were making a plan on the fly, whats the difference? But I think a Commander is a valuable asset as long as people listen to him

scotty has a good point, commanders that think the battle can go exactly as they think are a royal pain in the arse but the role filled by a good cmdr can change things, atm on NWA hitman, curry and zero can all produce really good results.

one thing about having a cmdr that seems to be forgotten these days is that the cmdr is the only person who can build up a quick and real picture as to what the entire enemy team are doing with or without UAV because he can take enemy / contact reports from anyone in the team and not just relying on sq ldrs to mark things properly.

a good cmdr is worth having in my opinion

That shows how much I know, no UAV?
Micro managing is big a nono. No ones likes to be told what to do all the time. But a cmdr with general knowledge of the current battle or something in the likes of that, will have some good information to share.
As the title of the thread says, can the commander contribute much more than mumble can? Some of you say yes, others no.
In my opinion having a commander listening to all intel and coms and having a "complete" overview of the map and all squads, at all time is useful.
He can see where you encounter most resistance, who is closest to support who and so on. Not forgetting JDAM and markers ect.
